I still want to know in what book is described the first meeting between Charles and his future wife while on assignment in Spain.

Thanks for posting, Elizabeth! That book is “Secrets of a Lady” which was previously released as “Daughter of the Game.” There’s an extended flashback to when Charles Fraser first met his wife Mélanie, in the Cantabrian Mountains in Spain during the Peninsular War. Charles was on a mission to meet a group of bandits who supposedly had the Carevalo Ring and give them gold for it.
